Meet your milan photographer

I’m Sydney Duncan, a Milan-based photographer specializing in romantic couple sessions, lifestyle family portraits, and editorial-style branding photography across Italy. I work with international clients who value imagery that feels intentional, effortless, and emotionally grounded. My goal is to create photographs that don’t just document the moment — they hold it.

For today's deep dive, we'll be exploring a recent studio collaboration with my long time client and bespoke womenswear designer Lauren Linnane, of PARLA the Label.

Lauren and I first met about a year into her journey as a bespoke womenswear designer. Having left behind her home in Boston and a decade long career in corporate finance, Lauren had thrown caution to the wind - her life was in Milan now, and her dream of making it in the fashion capital was made priority.

milan photographer meets milan fashion designer

Our meeting was quite serendipitous, two over achieving American gals crossing paths just as our new careers were being built in Italy. Photography was more of a side gig for me at the time, and her first set of samples were experiencing delay after delay in production. I'm not sure how many clients I actually had at the time, not many I'm certain, but she liked my style and I hers. That, and the "expat takes on Milan's fashion business scene" was a pretty strong bonding point.

Finally her gorgeous samples were ready, and my own photography skillsets better honed, it was time to get started.

Parla's Visual Identity

PARLA's essence is, as Lauren puts it, graciously fierce. The name itself, Parla, is italian for “she speaks." It is a brand embodying the modern woman’s confidence, conviction, and authenticity.

Aesthetically, PARLA's visual identity is where soft and bold meet. Strong, contouring shadows against gently draping textile. Light, movement, film grain. It's clean, but industrial. Feminine and unflinching.

Milan Studio Branding Photoshoot

While we often work on the streets of Milan, for this particular branding session a studio photoshoot was the call.

We wanted an environment organized and controlled, one where we could zero in on the clean lines and immaculate tailoring of PARLA without distraction.

B-Roll, product photography, and beyond

Throughout our two hour studio session, we covered a lot of ground.

We captured new headshots for Lauren, hero images for her website, video b-roll to use across platforms, clean front-back product photography, detail shots, and plenty of social media content.

It was easy to get caught up in the details on this one. PARLA's textiles and tailoring totally drew me in and wouldn't let go!

Aesthetically we worked with a juxtaposition of high end and industrial, letting PARLA's tailored blazers simply dangle from industrial clothing racks for many of the shots. The pieces speak for themselves.

In the end a studio photo session was without question the right call, especially in combination with the street style aesthetic we usually gravitate towards for the brand.

She speaks... what is she saying?

Ugh, can't get over these shots! The subtle movement, texture, and asymmetry. The shots are so simple, but without sacrificing feeling. To me they not only echo PARLA's feminine brand essence - but femininity in general. Not that to say being feminine is simple, it is pretty complex in fact... maybe that's the feeling that I'm getting at. Femininity can come across as effortless, but it's that delicate, textured, layered balance that makes it so.

Speaking of Femininity, just look at these blouses!!

Bespoke Photography services for bespoke suiting

We rounded out the session with detail shots of PARLA's textile samples and notions. As bespoke pieces, each suit is built to the clients individual tastes.

PARLA and I have this in common.

Each client collaboration is a totally customized experience. It is a process of using my expertise to bring the client's unique photo vision to life. With clients like Lauren, that process is seamless. Our aesthetics blend and build off of one another effortlessly.
