MEET YOUR MILAN Proposal PHOTOGRAPHER

I’m Sydney Duncan, a Milan-based photographer specializing in romantic couple sessions, fashion photography, and editorial-style branding photography across Italy. I work with international clients who value imagery that feels intentional, effortless, and emotionally grounded. My goal is to create photographs that don’t just document the moment, they hold it.

Getting engaged in milan

As far as proposal spots go, there are few that top the list higher than Italy! Timeless and cinematic, it’s the sort of proposal that that sets the romance gold standard.

While there is no shortage of Italian cities to propose in, or iconic monuments and views to propose in front of, Milan offers a very specific aesthetic, all the decadence and history that the country has to offer, all with a metropolitan twist. Not to mention there is no shortage of incredible bars and restaurants to celebrate in after you’ve popped the big question!

How to hire a photographer for your Milan proposal photos

So you’ve decided that Milan is the spot, hey? Congratulations on one huge to-do marked off of your list for this grand proposal you’ve got cooking! The next step… hiring the perfect photographer to capture the moment!

In a big city like Milan, finding a photographer is a snap. However, for a special moment like this I’d advise you to be discerning. First things first, have a look through their portfolio. It seems obvious enough, but you’d be surprised how many clients hire their photographer without hardly having seen their work… and then expect an aesthetic near opposite!

Secondly, take a look at their business’s reviews. If their site doesn’t list them directly, see if they’ve got a google business page. Feedback from others is a fantastic indicator of how your photographer handles business.

Lastly, after your initial reach out, how is the photographer’s communication? Proposal shoots involve heavy logistics… you’re going to want to be confident that they’re not only pleasant, but also considerate of your time.

Most Beautiful Places to Propose in Milan

Milan is a gorgeous city, and as such there is of course no shortage of beautiful places to propose. This being said, if you're looking for a proposal location in Milan that is truly iconic, there are a handful of spots I can recommend:

Duomo di Milano

If you want your proposal and engagement photos to scream Milan, then the city's famous cathedral is just about as on the money as you can get. An architectural marvel, one close look at the structure's sheer detail and you won't be shocked to learn that it took nearly 6 entire centuries to complete!

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Just next to the Duomo you'll find the breathtaking Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a 19th century structure arcade linking the Duomo to Teatro alla Scala.

Lake Como

While not located in Milan exactly, world famous Lake Como is less than an hour journey away via train. Romantic, elegant, and completely timeless, if you're after proposal photos straight out of a fairytale, then Lake Como is the spot for you.

What To Expect From Your Photoshoot

With so much already going on logistically, juggling planning your international trip on top of a grand surprise proposal, to throw a photoshoot on top might feel overwhelming... but it doesn't have to! In face, choose the right photographer and the proposal can be that much more of a breeze. They can recommend where to propose, what time, and even ways you might want to spend your day/evening afterwards.

As far as the shoot itself goes, I can't speak for other proposal photographers, but mine are low stress and low pressure.

I start by posing as a tourist, hiding in plain sight while you pop the question. After the big moment, I step back, giving you and your love however much time you like to just be with one another and let the shock set in!

Once you're both ready to go, we hop into the engagement photos. We'll do a handful of gently posed shots, but the real magic is in the candids! Just capturing you and the love of your life being yourselves in the presence of one another. Of course, some couples lean more editorial in their preferences, and some more natural... which direction we take ultimately is up to you!
