How to choose the best milan luxury photo studio

I know from my early days as a photographer in Milan that finding the perfect studio space can be overwhelming. There is so much to consider, from light availability, to price, to location. All of this without even factoring in the other logistics you're facing for your photography session.

I'm here to take some of that pressure off. Below you'll find tips exactly what to look for, as well as to give you my personal top recommended Milan photography studio.

WHy should you choose a studio for your photography session?

With all of the costs that come along with a photo session; photography, wardrobe, models, and so on, it's totally fair that the thought of cutting corners might cross your mind. And sometimes it's possible! On occasion, that studio shoot translates well to the street, a cafe, or even the clients home. As your photographer, it is important to me to work within the budget that makes you feel comfortable. However, if a concept needs a studio, I'm going to highly recommend it.

A Controlled Environment

I can't tell you the level of relief felt knowing that the shoot environment is completely controlled! Knowing that no unexpected obstacles, whether that be inclement weather or, say, some unexpected parade, is going to get in the way of us getting the shot. A controlled environment is a total godsend, particularly when we've got a lot of moving parts.

Crisp, Clean Aesthetic.

There is no getting around that a studio is the ideal location for those sessions where you need a clean, crisp aesthetic. Things like product shoots or headshots, for instance. In occasions such as these, the subject needs to shine, and the less distraction, the better. Shooting in a studio reduces background noise and ensures that our subject remains the star.

WHICH QUALITIES MAKE FOR A GREAT LUXURY PHOTO STUDIO?

Natural light

A studio with a great natural light option is 10/10 my recommendation. Studio lights work wonders, but there is something about that warm, natural sunlight shining in through the windows that gives a photograph so much fullness and texture.

Studio light availability

Though a studio guarantees that you won't get rained on, an exceptionally cloudy day can still take its toll on any natural light the space has to offer. To avoid any potential light related issues, go into your studio session confident that they have artificial lighting on hand. This often comes at an extra rental fee, but in the moment that you need it, it is without a doubt worth the cost. Good lighting will make or break a photo.

Variety within the space

While often a simple white backdrop is enough to get the job done, sometimes you might want a little variety within the space to help mix things up. Many studios offer rooms with various backdrops, props, furniture, and so on, to help us keep those shots interesting.

Great service

Always a bonus, working with a studio with great service makes certain that your session runs as smooth as butter. For this reason, choosing a studio that your photographer trusts is always a smart move.

My favorite luxury photo studio in Milan

With Milan being a fashion capital, of course there are a number of wonderful studios that you can partner with. However, when I want something tried and true, I keep going back to Cross + Studio.

Cross + Studio is a photography studio located in one of Milan's most art-forward neighborhoods, Navigli. It isn't a single room, but rather a multi-story warehouse offering an impressive selection of studios from small and intimate white spaces to those more grandiose and generously furnished. When I have sessions at Cross + Studio, I always have the pleasure of working with Enrico, who is always a doll.

Now You have the studio... But do you have your photographer?

You're welcome to take these tips and work with any photographer, there is no shortage of fantastic freelancers across Milan! However, if you want someone you can trust to get the shot rain or shine, natural lights or artificial, someone who knows their way around the studio, then I might just be your girl.
