MEET YOUR MILAN ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER
I’m Sydney Duncan, a Milan photographer specializing in romantic couple sessions, fashion photography, and editorial-style branding photography across Italy. I work with international clients who value imagery that feels intentional, effortless, and emotionally grounded. My goal is to create photographs that don’t just document the moment — they hold it.
is Milan a good city for ENGAGEMENT portraits?
Chances are, if you're planning your engagement photoshoot for italy, then you've got an impossible decision in front of you! The truth is, from Milan, to Lake Como, to Venice, and beyond... as someone who has shot at all of the above, you honestly can't go wrong. Each Italian city brings its own special something! Milan, in particular, bringing to the table an incredibly fashionable metropolitan aesthetic.
So in short, yes! Absolutely, Milan is a phenomenal city to capture your engagement portraits! It's got tourists sure, but not the same overcrowding that you would experience in Rome for instance. It's got stunning architecture, cute street side cafes, and a lovely neutral color pallet that really lets you and your partner pop in the photos!
Think you might be sold, but still have a few questions you need answered? Today I'm going to walk you through some of the most common questions I get about engagement, proposal, and couples photo sessions in Milan!
WHERE ARE THE BEST PHOTO SPOTS IN MILAN?
Right off the bat, this is the big one that every client of course wants to know!
Of course you already well aware that Milan is beautiful, that's why you're coming! But if you've never stepped foot in the city, you aren't exactly privy to the city's ins and outs.
A few of the most iconic spots that you'll want to consider including in your shot list:
Piazza Del Duomo
Home to both Milan's famous Cathedral and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II! Definitely the most famous of the options, if you want to really commemorate your time in Milan, this is the spot!
Brera
An old-school italian neighborhood with colorful buildings and cobblestone streets
Fontana del Tritoni
A lesser known spot settled in between the first two options, Fountana del Tritoni is a beautiful hidden gem perfect to incorporate into your photo session.
I'll admit though, while these spots are stunning, my favorite photos often come from exploring the city's side streets on foot and seeing what we wonder into!
When is the best time of day for photos in milan?
People don't like to hear it (and trust me, I'd also rather sleep in) but sunrise shoots are definitely the way to go in Milano.
Which hour in particular depends on the season (your photographer can help you pin down the specifics), but getting out and shooting just as or directly after the sun has come up is going to work in your favor for two crucial reasons:
Low Foot Traffic
While there will already be some people out an about, an early morning start means drastically less tourists to work around!
Soft Lighting
More important than any other element of your photoshoot, we want to capture your engagement photos in the best lighting possible! Now what exactly is "best" can vary depending on what you are trying to achieve, but for romantic portraits, the gentle light that comes first thing in the morning is going to be without a doubt the most flattering. Soft, well distributed, and devoid of harsh shadows.
How much does an engagement photoshoot in milan cost?
How much your particular session will cost is dependent on several factors. Do you want professional hair and makeup done (the hair and makeup artist I work with usually starts at 200 EUR) ? Are you paying to rent any private locations for part of your session?
Even when it comes to the photographer's rate specifically, the price can vary big time! For my services in particular, you can expect to pay 450 EUR for the first hour of shooting, plus 250 EUR for each additional hour.
What should I wear for a photoshoot in milan?
Obviously where whatever is most you! But... if you're asking my advice, take a hint from the couple in the photos I've featured in this blog post! White, cream, browns... a neutral color pallet really lends itself well to the cityscape. Most fun of all (and if you check out the photo below then you'll really see what I mean) the way the morning light hits a white dress with that Milano background makes you completely pop out of the photo!
HOW Should I POSE FOR my ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS?
Okay this one is a big stressor for my couples, and it totally shouldn't be!
I (or your photographer of choice) will totally be there to help with gentle prompting and guiding, but if I'm being real, the best photos come from you and your partner just being yourselves! Running down the street holding hands, looking into each others eyes... that same magic that makes your love so special is exactly what brings the photos to life!
